iVerifier

Independent Verification (or independent check) is a critical LOP to ensure that critical or high-risk steps (single-point-vulnerabilities) in action-by-action procedures are performed correctly and no errors exist prior to proceeding.

It can be used to ensure that occupational safety related LOPs are performed correctly. For example, a voltage check of de-energized equipment, a pressure check of the system before disassembly of a valve, or an equipment ID check of de-energized equipment.

Independent verification has two types:

  1. Concurrent verification
  2. After-action verification

Concurrent verification is carried out with the verifier stay together with the worker. The worker would announce what s/he is going to do; then the verifier would verify that the upcoming action is correct according to the procedure. After verification, the worker would proceed to execute the action. Concurrent verification usually takes 4 times of the efforts to perform a job as compared to use of self-check as an LOP.

After-action verification is that after the action, the verifier is called in to verify that the actions are performed correctly. After-action verification is commonly used to verify system line-up, valve manipulation before commission, etc.

However, independent verification can occupy as much as 20%-30% of the work force and about 20% of the procedural execution time due to waiting on the independent verifier. This can be a very burdensome process.

The iVerifier module eliminates the need and time wasted spent on coordination between the verifier and the requestor, as well as physical travel to a site to verify the job.

  • Instead, a photo of the performed action and the doer are sent via KALE™ to the verifier for review and approval.
  • Regardless of location or schedule, this verification process can be carried out instantly. The verifier, whom can be located anywhere, reviews the job performed and either approves or rejects the performance. With this instant feedback and approval, the doer can proceed to the next action without delay.
  • The entire process of verification from sending the request, the approval/rejection, and feedback and receipt is documented and can be viewed in the notification center and report center to track and record the progress of a job.

iVerifier can save 20% work effort and a 20% reduction of execution time in a typical job by the:

  • Elimination of the time and effort spent on coordination between the requestor and the verifier to schedule time and travel to a job site
  • Elimination of field time for the verifier
  • Elimination of time wasted while the requestor waits for the verifier
  • Elimination of blind trust and distraction (also reducing the error rate of independent verification).

Additionally, for instances where internet is unavailable, the iVerifier module supports in-person verification. In this case, the user can still use the iVerifier module, ask for the verifier to sign-off in the module on the same device. The verification report is saved, even while disconnected from the internet, and is synced as soon as the user reconnects to internet service. This allows the iVerifier module the flexibility to be used by anyone, under any circumstance, from any location.

With iVerifier, any Single Point Vulnerabilities and Point- Of-No-Returns can be checked to make sure no errors exist and ensure the success of a job. iVerifier makes independent check easier to execute and tracks all verifications in the KALE™ activity center.
